Cupcakes and Carrots

The horses borrowing my grandparents' field have gotten into the terrible (but only natural) habit of eating from the fruit trees across the fence. My friend's mom and little sister visited yesterday, and took some very entertaining photos.

The girls and I made cupcakes and picked flowers, and they fed the horses carrots (much drooling was involved). It was a fun afternoon and I think they had fun (as exhibited when they hid under the bed when it was time for Ariana to leave!).
My father flies in from Dubai tomorrow night, and my little brother is currently at Boy Scout camp - his first week away ever! I am ordering new piping supplies and reeds, and we are having a cookout with the cousins. Summertime!

Ginseng

I love this tea. And its pretty cans! I want to cut one up and make a necklace or journal cover. I've been drinking green tea for over a year, but this is my favourite thing, and we haven't found it in Dubai. (note to self: look harder.)
We just bought a big jug of it, diet and decaf =) Are you tea drinkers? Coffee drinkers? Coming from Washington I'm a die-hard Starbucks and Seattle's Best fan, but anything good and strong and sweet is nice!

April Twenty Third

Several months ago my well group leader invited all of her girls to a Ladies' Father-Daughter dinner. It was by far the most extravagent and wonderful event I have ever attended. Elaine did all of the designing, arranging, and cooking, and other familiar faces served as waiters and butlers. It was a delightful evening with our fathers and each other. The food was glorious.

I wish I had photos of the meal - it would astound you. Hopefully I will soon! Elaine is a self-taught master chef with an artist's eye. My favourites were the stacked caprese salad and the creme brulee.
It was a lavish dinner; a gift.
A year of faithful leading and time and driving and loving, and one evening of sacrificial cooking.

love,
Cait
p.s. the corsage was from Daddy - my first one :)

Betty Grable

Last night I watched an old 50's movie on television with my grandfather. It was My Blue Heaven, with the fabulous Betty Grable and Dan Dailey. I'd never seen a Betty Grable film and absolutely fell in love with her! She was such a marvelous actress, and astunning beauty with impeccable style and a sultry jazz voice. I wasn't sure quite what to think of the film as a whole, but I loved the parts that celebrated motherhood. I cheered when she fired the nanny!
Are any of you Betty Grable fans? Do you have a favorite photograph of her?

what happens at band camp

...really is no secret.

The Ohio Scottish Arts School was, as always, a fantastic week of excellent instructors, lots of piping, fun and silliness, and learning at new levels. Both of my teachers were excellent (the renowned Bob Worrall and Reay MacKay) and put in extra effort with their advanced classes.
Of course a week with highland kids can't be complete without plenty of inside jokes and pranks on Drew Duncan, the piping director. (including piping 'happy birthday' to him at lunch when his birthday is in November!)
Now I'm in beautiful Washington state, enjoying driving and the mountains.

Cait
P.S. I have no clue what game they were playing in the photo!
