the world is quiet here

Somewhere in a hidden memory
Images float before my eyes
Of fragrant nights of straw and of bonfires
And dancing till the next sunrise.

Figures of cornstalks bend in the shadows
Held up tall as the flames leap high
The green knight holds the holly bush
To mark where the old year passes by.

Standing on the bridge that crosses
The river that goes out to the sea
The wind is full of a thousand voices
They pass by the bridge and me.

I can see the lights in the distance
Trembling in the dark cloak of night
Candles and lanterns are dancing, dancing
A waltz on All Souls Night.

do you think of fanciful parties as an exciting, peopled affair? or maybe a time you set aside for yourself. both? either? I think so. It would be silly to limit ourselves to one use of a word with such lovely connotations.

well, today is the Halloween party!
I think we should have a mixture of both.

our family never celebrated All Soul's Night. I remember peeking out through the curtains with my little sister to see the passing costumed fairies and screamers and princesses.
now in Dubai we leave as the sun sets and the children come out, to a friend's house, where we have donuts and apples off strings and guess who people are impersonating. All Saints' Day celebration.

oh how I miss pumpkins! I want to make pies and bread and cookies, and drink pumpkin spice lattes and maple chocolate. fresh crisp air and red and orange leaves would be nice too. only a few more days!

Alice in Wonderland is someone I have always thought would enjoy All Hallow's Eve immensely, don't you think? Just think; I'll see her in a few weeks at Disney.

now, let's make wassail. or hot chocolate?

Halloween also reminds me of the Snark.

" 'But oh, beamish nephew, beware of the day,
If your Snark be a Boojum! For then

You will softly and suddenly vanish away,
And never be met with again!'

for the snark was a boojum, you see.

"In a moment (of this I am sure),
I shall softly and suddenly vanish away--
And the notion I cannot endure!"

- Lewis Carroll

Happy All Saints' Day - quite early!

and now it is time to say:

Slan go Foill Cara na
Mhuintir
Buiochas diobh go leir.
Is e sin oiche na taibhse;
Failte roimhe i mo ti an oiche seo
.

love, cait

I know next to nothing about Alice in Wonderland. It always scared me when I was little.
However, I do know the Series of Unfortunate Events.

That was such a lovely visit with beautiful poetry and things to think about. I have never had maple chocolate but it sounds delicious. I notice in your profile that you like the Fleet Foxes -me too-their music is so magical isn't it?
Thank you for your lovely comment about Minerva-she was most flattered!
Happy Halloween (:>
