Quilt Squares (and other uses)

Many of my evenings or spare moments this summer were spent on the floor in my grandparents' sewing room, cutting quilt squares from the boxes of old fabric in the closet. I have already begun several quilts here at home and wanted to complete them with materials that were familiar, vintage, antique, just gorgeous, or part of our family history in a sense. Many of these fabrics I recognize from dresses (or doll dresses) my grandma made us or our mother and aunts. It makes it so much more special and I'll be able to tell my friends and children about each square in the simple patchwork quilts.

One is made from 5 inch squares, and the other of tiny, 1.5 inch squares. That will certainly take longer to finish! I'm in no hurry though. Another blanket takes priority now, which is simpler in its construction but more complex in the finishing. You'll see! ;)
I'm very excited because I just found some tutorials for gathered rosette flowers, such as those used in lovely necklaces, headbands, and other embellishments popular on etsy. I can't wait to make these and use them.

What new things are you discovering or making?

love,
Cait

Pretty fabric! I'm kind of an "instant gratification" person when it comes to sewing, so I've only finished one small wall quilt.

The headband is really cute, too. I like the idea of using leftover scraps for those little projects.

I love these shots, they conjure up memories of my grandmother's sewing room, too. I love the serene hues and absolutely beautiful patterns of those fabrics. I'm sure you'll create utterly incredible creations from all of these treasured materials, sweet dear.

Big hugs & joyful Monday wishes,
♥ Jessica

That will turn out beautifully, I am sure. I am currently making a tee-shirt quilt with all of my old tees. I can't wait to see how it turns out! I need to work on it tonight actually. ;)
